It was previously reported that the Lighthouse Family musical duo had split up after nearly 30 years, but now it is thought that there is tension behind the scenes.
The band – consisting of singer Tunde Baiyewu and keyboardist Paul Tucker, both 53 – formed as a group in 1993 but are now believed to have gone their separate ways.
A statement, signed by Paul, was released on the band’s social media accounts yesterday, saying that Tunde wants to focus on solo projects instead of them continuing as a solo artist. duo.
However, this was denied by a representative for Tunde, who told us that Paul had “taken control” of the band’s social media accounts and that the group had become “a faction”.
In a statement to the Mirror this afternoon, a representative for Tunde responded to the recent events: “Paul’s announcement on Lighthouse Family’s social platforms is not a joint statement.”
The spokesperson further commented: “For over a year now, Paul has taken over control of all Lighthouse Family social media accounts and denied Tunde’s access to any of them in spite of several requests to restore his access.”
The representative said Tunde – who has released two solo albums over the years – was “disappointed” to learn that Paul had “unilaterally” released a statement “without consulting him.”

The representative concluded: “It is becoming more and more unilateral than a partnership and [Tunde] feel the joy that what they created together is gone.”
The statement on the band’s accounts, signed by Paul, read: “I am saddened to inform you that after nearly thirty years, we have reached the end of our Lighthouse Family journey.”
Fans have been thanked for their support, with an apology later included in a statement for those who purchased tickets to see them perform at a music festival in the coming weeks.
Organizers of the Mouth of the Tyne festival in Tynemouth – which are scheduled to use the Lighthouse Family as a headline act on July 9 – are reportedly offering refunds to fans.
Discussing pulling out of it, Paul said: “I’ve tried everything with our agents and promoters over the past few weeks to make this a success but we just can’t get through.”
The statement continued: “Tunde now wants to focus on his solo career and I wish him all the best.” It later issued an apology to the festival’s promoters and affected fans.
Paul said he was “really looking forward” to the hometown show, ending with a statement: “I’m just as disappointed as you are. I break my heart by letting you guys down.”
