Billy Joel paid tribute to Charlie Watts Friday with a canopy of the Rolling Stones’ “Brown Sugar” throughout his live performance Friday in Cincinnati.

Joel and his band performed an abbreviated model of the Sticky Fingers basic, telling the Nice American Ball Park crowd “That’s for Charlie” earlier than segueing into his personal hit “Massive Shot.”

Friday’s live performance was Joel’s first present since Watts’ August 24th death at the age of 80; along with the numerous tributes from fellow rock legends — like Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Pete Townshend, Questlove, E Road Band drummer Max Weinberg, Watts’ bandmates and plenty of extra — the Rolling Stones drummer has been honored onstage by Jason Isbell and Brittney Spencer in addition to Dead & Company.

Joel’s Cincinnati gig got here at some point earlier than the twentieth anniversary of the 9/11 terror assaults, with the singer dedicating a prolonged, emotional rendition of his Massive Apple anthem “New York State of Thoughts” to the victims of the assault:
