A 24-year-old man who just sold Dubai ‘s Most Expensive Mansion has shared his incredible rags-to-riches story.

Conor McKay, from Derry, Northern Ireland, says he always “loved making money”, even when he was at school he had people working for him.

He was inspired to get into real estate after watching a reality TV show in which young real estate agents were selling high-end homes in Los Angeles. This is reported by the Irish Mirror.

At the age of 19, while working in car sales, Conor made the life-changing decision to move abroad – determined, it was millionaire .

He now holds the record for selling a bespoke 33,300sqm mega-mansion earlier this month for AED280million (£59.2million).

The previous long-standing record – of AED185m (£39.1m) – has remained unbeaten since 2015, although many transactions have come close.

Conor says he grafted himself out of a housing development to become one of Dubai’s leading luxury property brokers.

“I really grew up like everyone else,” he said. “Growing up I was very into sports, but I always wanted to make money.

“I had three or four people working for me at school selling energy drinks, candy and chocolate and after that I started running Golf Store NI on eBay. I’ve always had an interest in making lots of money.

“I then got another job in a bar and I enjoyed it at the time, but I didn’t really make any money from it.

“That’s when I decided to try selling cars.”

After work, Conor went home and watched Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles — a reality TV show starring young real estate agents selling high-end Los Angeles homes. Then the thought occurred to him: “I wanted to be just like one of them.

“What struck me about all of this was the way they lived. It was like something I had never really been exposed to before. They were all good business savvy, had handsome incomes, and lived lavish lifestyles.

“I was absolutely amazed when I looked at these properties and the order they would receive that kept popping up on the screen. I figured if they could do it, then so could I.”

The daredevil shared how he first tried to move to the US before settling in the Middle East.

“I had every intention of moving to the US and starting there, but it didn’t work out because it’s not an easy process to come to America, and that’s where I came across Dubai.

“I’ve never been to Dubai, I’ve never been on holiday and I’ve always been turned down by agents because there weren’t people my age doing the job I wanted to do. That was unheard of.

“A company after me that harassed them for quite a while gave me an opportunity. Fast forward to today and I’m living my absolute dream.

“It’s easy now for people to look at the posts on social media and think it was easy to get here, but I can assure you that’s not the case.

“When I finally got a job, I didn’t have an apartment at first, I stayed in a hotel for seven days and then got a maid’s room, which was very small.

“I also had no idea what I was doing, I had to learn as I went and I just knew I had to work harder than everyone else out here.”

Conor, who now works for Belleview Real Estate, now holds the record for the sale of Dubai’s most expensive villa.

He has grown into one of the leading luxury property brokers in Dubai and has been included in the top 10 UAE brokers by PropertyFinder and has been recognized as the best broker by UAE property portals multiple times a month.

The 24-year-old is also one of only three real estate agents in Dubai to be named PropertyFinder’s number 1 real estate agent for two consecutive years.

“I actually speak to the guys in Los Angeles who were part of the reality TV show and I actually brokered a deal from Dubai for a property in LA.

“If someone had told me a few years ago that I would set a record like mine, I probably wouldn’t have believed them myself.

“I’ve been doubted by everyone, at times I’ve even doubted myself, but I’ve set the sky the limit now and I want to be known as the real estate agent of choice around the world for the next ten years.”
