The Russian TV presenter criticizes the appeal of captured British soldiers

A senior pro-Putin politician has demanded that rebels in the Donetsk People’s Republic give the go-ahead to impose the death penalty on two surrendered British volunteer fighters in Ukraine.

Britain and other western countries have condemned the threatened execution of Aiden Aslin, 28, and Shaun Pinner, 48, and Moroccan Sadun Brahim, 21, who was on trial with them.

All have a month to appeal and can also seek a pardon from the head of the pro-Putin separatist region, which is intentionally part of Ukraine.

A third British prisoner, Andrew Hill, 35, a Plymouth father, was also told he could face the death penalty if his sentence was announced.

Secretary of State Liz Truss called it a “sham judgment” and “absolutely devoid of legitimacy,” while No. 10 said she was “deeply concerned” by the failure to treat the men as prisoners of war under the Geneva Convention.

Russian nationalist MP Aleksey Zhuravlyov, deputy chairman of the Russian parliament’s defense committee, on state TV Rossiya 1 called for appeals to be dismissed and they shot.

Then other “scum” and “beasts” – international fighters in Ukraine – will realize that they should leave Ukraine now.

“So the bastards have a month to live,” the politician said on state television, referring to the Brits who have been convicted of mercenaries, terrorism and conspiracy to overthrow authorities.

“Let her live, somehow try to appeal the verdict.

“But I hope it stays the same.

“Then it will be clear to everyone who is fighting now, like Georgians and other scum, that or you will die out there, beasts

Before his arrest, Mr Aslin, 27, contacted his family and announced they had run out of food and ammunition

“Or you’ll be shot by court order anyway.

“So you don’t have a choice – pack your things and go quickly.

“There is nothing you can do.”

Russian state television propagandist Vladimir Solovyov claimed that Boris Johnson’s government is now “panic” about the death sentences because it has no way of lobbying Moscow and the DPR authorities to spare the men.

“Now there is indeed a panic situation in England,” he said.

“The death penalty as an exceptional punishment for convicts.

“Now the most difficult moment begins.

“Liz Truss [UK foreign secretary] screams that everything is illegal, that everything is terrible.

“She should resign because all this chatter about ‘I’m going to talk to the Ukrainian authorities now,’ what will it do?

“The Ukrainian government cannot influence in any way.

“Liz Truss cannot speak to the Russian authorities.

“That [British] screwed up relationships completely [with us].

“Boris Johnson and Liz Truss will fight to the last Ukrainian.

“Well, what are they going to do [about the British men sentenced to death]?

“What are you going to do?”

Solovyov suggested that they could face a “firing squad.”

Separately, in Russia, Channel One accused Truss of “demagogy” and reported that the Geneva Convention does not apply to “mercenaries.”

“You can see the reaction of the convicts – dejected and stunned,” said the state-controlled broadcaster.

“They pleaded guilty, including to a charge of training for terrorist activities, but in fact they didn’t just train.”

Pinner had “shot at civilians,” according to other detainees, the report said.

Kremlin officials claim the verdict sparked panic in Westminster (Sean Pinner, left, and Aiden Aslin, right).

However, five alleged witnesses did not take part in what is known in the West as a “show trial”.

The state-owned newspaper Rossiya 1 reported that “no one from the British authorities has contacted the leaders of the republic or law enforcement officials about the fate of the convicted mercenaries”.

Before the death sentence, Aslin said: “I would like to apologize to the residents of Donetsk. I was hoping that the verdict would be fairer considering that I cooperated with the investigation and volunteered to surrender to the Donets core.” Republic.

All three men, including Shaun Pinner pictured, have one month to appeal the “sham verdict”.

“I was hoping for a different sentence. I will face divine judgment when the time comes.”

There are claims that Moscow wants to use the British men as pawns to secure the release of Putin supporters who are being held by Ukraine.

In late April, Moscow proposed an exchange with Putin’s Ukrainian friend Viktor Medvedchuk, an oligarch held by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s forces.
