Sense of duty displayed by the lost Queen, warns May

Theresa May says the Queen’s sense of responsibility can be lost in public life.

he once said that the Queen was “most remarkable” and an “exemplar of devotion to duty”.

She told ITV’s Lorraine: “I think there’s probably a little bit of that sense of responsibility.

“For many people, it becomes more about them than about other people and how they should… work for other people.”

The former prime minister added: “She is the most remarkable person I have ever met.

“The combination of qualities that she has, I have not come across in anyone else.

“I doubt we’ll ever see her again like that.”

Mrs May spoke intimately of visiting the Queen at Balmoral, where the monarch sought to make guests feel at ease – including by playing cards on her own while others came along.

The former prime minister said the Queen did not make herself the center of attention at gatherings.

She said the Queen wants to be “a good hostess” who “wants her guests to really feel at home, enjoy their surroundings as much as she does and be able to relax”.
