A serial thief caught stealing handbags and purses from women in bars and restaurants in Dublin city center had more than 200 criminal convictions, a court heard.
Ichelle McCullagh, 43, kicked a woman’s bag away from her table on the floor of a restaurant to retrieve it while she was caught crouching and rummaging through a purse in another attempted theft.
McCullagh, with addresses including Westcourt, Basin Street, Dublin, pleaded guilty to multiple theft charges in 2020.
Judge Bryan Smyth adjourned the judgment in Dublin District Court. The court heard on September 24 that same year at a south city center restaurant that a diner had stolen her purse, purse and keys worth a total of €250 and McCullagh was identified on CCTV.
Another woman’s purse was removed from her purse when she left it next to her seat at a Starbucks on September 16.
On the same day at Thunder Road Cafe, Dublin 2, McCullagh kicked a woman’s bag off her table across the floor and took it.
It had a wallet, cards and €230 in Brazilian currency.
She stole another handbag containing €165 in cash at Bar Rua, Clarendon Street.
Recently, on May 23rd this year, McCullagh stole 11 bottles of sunscreen worth €100 from Boots, Phibsborough.
McCullagh had a total of 213 prior convictions.
