Seven people were injured when the ceiling of a hotel kitchen collapsed.

Two of the victims were seriously injured after the floor of a gym at a hotel in Mallorca collapsed and heavy exercise equipment crashed into the kitchen below.

One of the injured was a chef from the Blue Sea Piscis Hotel in Port de Alcudia in the north of the Balearic island.

Rescuers who are still at the scene have confirmed there are no fatalities.

A 57-year-old woman was evacuated to Son Espases hospital with a cautious prognosis after becoming trapped in a wall.

She suffered several serious injuries and a bruise on her face.

The other seriously injured person was a man aged 59. He suffered a serious head injury.

According to the Mallorca Fire Department, the accident happened at 2:58 p.m. at the tourist hotel on Calle Teodor Canet.

A roof of the gym is believed to have collapsed and some equipment fell into the basement kitchen.

Two people were trapped in the rubble and another five were treated for various injuries. The two seriously injured are believed to be hotel employees.

The hotel was evacuated as a precaution and the road closed so that the emergency services could work without disruption.

Crews from four fire stations rushed to the scene, in addition to a basic life support ambulance, a SAMU rapid response vehicle, and local police and Civil Guard agents.

At first there was great concern because the condition of the two trapped people was not known and there were fears for their lives.

The fire service says customers have been moved to other hotels while the structure of the building is checked. More than 300 guests were evacuated.

The Civil Guard are investigating the cause of the incident and whether it was a gas leak, although this has not been confirmed.
