GERMAN prosecutors believe convicted pedophile Christian B snatched Madeleine McCann – but so far conclusive evidence remains out of reach.
Despite a lengthy investigation by the authorities in Portugal, Germany and the UK, there are still a series of important unknowns in the The world’s most famous missing child mystery.
Police officers investigating the 15-year-old case are divided over whether it will ever be resolved.
While German prosecutors still believe they can catch the perpetrators, their Portuguese counterparts are said to believe that the investigation has failed. go to a dead end.
Meanwhile Inquiry into Met .’s £12m Operation Grange Answers have yet to be provided to Madeleine’s grieving parents Kate and Gerry.
They are said to be still holding out hope that their daughter – who will now be 18 – is still alive.
But prosecutors in Germany were certain she was dead after looking into Christian B’s past connections to the Algarve.
He is currently serving a prison sentence in Germant for raping a pensioner on Portugal’s sunny coast in 2005, and is suspected of a host of other crimes.
But he has refused to cooperate with investigators into the McCann case, other than insisting he was not involved.
As they search for the missing piece, prosecutors are faced with a series of remaining mysteries that need to be unraveled.
‘Shocking new evidence’
A group making a documentary about Madeleine say they have deliver new evidence to the detectives.
They claim they discovered evidence that Christian B, 45, was near Praia da Luz when Madeleine disappeared in May 2007.
The team of documents from Sat.1, which includes former investigators and journalists, said they had gathered “many new clues and signs” that Christian had taken her away.
Editor-in-Chief Juliane Ebling said: “The sad story of Madeleine McCann is a German story with many facets.
“The case is being heard at the Braunschweig Regional Court, as German Christian B is the prime suspect.
“In his environment were filled with German women and men who were able to describe the individual details surrounding the crime.
“Jutta Rabe has researched shocking material in Germany, Portugal and the UK over the past months, leading to heavy accusations by Christian B.”
Earlier this month, The Sun revealed the case against Christian B would fall apart after British investigators found he had an alibi.
Phone records examined by the German team are said to have placed him at the scene.
But a television team led by a former detective spotted the sexual predator “30 minutes” from Praia da Luz when Madeleine disappeared.
Madeleine McCann, Channel 5’s tripartite: Investigate Key Suspects, is set to crack the case against Christian B.
The team, which spent months in Portugal and Germany, found new witnesses in both countries who made him suspect guilt.
And the new investigation led by former Surrey Police detective Mark Williams-Thomas is supposed to show “piling up” alibi.
Our source said: “They have concluded that he cannot take Madeleine.
“He was there for 30 minutes and didn’t answer the phone in Praia da Luz the night she disappeared.”
‘Russian in the frame’
Television investigators are also said to have found evidence other suspects may have snatched Madeleine.
A Portuguese source said: “New information is pointing to the fact that two Russians may be behind this.”
It casts doubt on the prosecutors’ claims that they have solid indictment information jailed rapist Christian OFF.
German investigators reportedly had “concrete evidence” that Madeleine was dead, and claimed that Christian B killed her shortly after catching her.
But The Sun revealed last year that they really had “nothing specific”.
Scotland Yard detectives say they have seen no evidence that Madeleine is no longer alive.
The four-man Operation Grange unit is still active in the “active” phase of their missing child investigation.
A source told Online email last month: “Clearly the Met is more open-minded than the current German authorities.
“Madeleine’s parents have always said that if they were presented with real proof that she was dead, they would accept it.
“But the fact that Operation Grange still exists and is still receiving funding shows that the Met still thinks there is still work and investigation to be done.”
The Home Office has awarded an additional £350,000 in funding to last until the end of the year.
German prosecutors designated Christian B as their prime suspect in June 2020.
But it emerged that they were really started investigating him at least three years earlier.
Now after about five years of emergency work, they still don’t have enough evidence to press charges.
“We did not take our decision to go public,” Mr. Wolters said.
“Since then, we’ve found a lot of other pieces, but I can’t reveal what they are.
“We are making a lot of progress and have the same number of investigators working on the case, but we still haven’t had enough to charge the suspect.”
Secret vaults and sinister factories
The investigation into Christian B has revealed that he has approached several terrifying lairs that are closed off from prying eyes.
One is one Compound runs down on the Algarve with a high fence not far from where Madeleine got jerked.
An ex-lover leads the police to a secret bunker, which was formerly guarded by four ferocious Kangal dogs – the one with the strongest bite of any hunting dog in the world.
The investigation also led the police to search his old address in Germany.
At one house, the suspect is said to have Illegally digging a 10ft . secret tunnel homecoming.
Locals claim he plans to live like Austria’s Josef Fritzl cellar monster, although there is no evidence of any wrongdoing at the secluded estate.
Christian B also acquired a cardboard box factory a few years ago after Madeleine disappeared.
What did journalist Jon Clarke find? seems to be a shallow grave inside after the police had searched it.
It was in this abandoned factory that police found more than 8,000 sick photos and videos sexually abused he hid in a Lidl bag under the body of buried Christian B Charlie the dead dog.
Facing other charges
Christian B is reported to be accused of raping Hazel Behan, Irish tour agent in the Algarve in 2004, three years before Madeleine disappeared.
Der Spiegel reports that prosecutors will “conclude” their investigation into the rape earlier this year.
Miss behan, then 20 years old, appeared in June 2020 after reading about her previous convictions.
German prosecutors have yet to reveal what evidence they have implicated him in the case and his lawyer declined to comment.
The villain, who lived in the Algarve from 1995 to 2007, is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence for raping an American pensioner in 2005.
He took on odd jobs in the area where Madeleine disappeared, and is known to have stolen hotel rooms and resort apartments.
Christian is also investigating the possibility involved in at least four other crimes in the area.
One was the sexual assault of a ten-year-old girl by a naked man in 2007, six miles from Praia da Luz.
German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters said there was good reason to believe the perpetrator was Christian B.
Another involved the abuse of four children at a festival in São Bartolomeu de Messines in 2017.
And he is also being investigated for the 1996 murder of 16-year-old Carola Titze in Belgium.
German police are also looking into whether the suspect is involved in the disappearance of “German Maddie” Inga Gehricke, who disappeared in 2015.
