Sexual assault charges against musician Rex Orange County dropped

Sexual assault charges against musician Rex Orange County have been dropped, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced.

the 24-year-old, real name Alexander O’Connor, from Surrey, has faced six counts of sexually assaulting a woman.

He shared the news on Instagram, saying that CPS had “reviewed the evidence and decided that there was no reason for this case to go to trial, not guilty verdicts were given to the all charges.

“I have always denied these allegations and am grateful that independent evidence has proven I have not committed any wrongdoing.

“I have never attacked anyone and I do not condone violence or abuse of any kind.”

O’Connor said he wanted “detailed clarifications” about the allegations.

“I have been falsely accused of touching someone’s legs, neck, back and buttocks one evening. That led to six charges of sexual assault,” he said.

“Their partner was also present throughout the evening during the interrogation and issued a statement to the police that they did not support the charges against me.”

He thanked his family and those close to him for their “continued support”.

A CPS spokesman said: “CPS prosecutors have a duty to continue to look into each case.

“After careful review of all the evidence, our legal test for prosecution is no longer met and so we will not proceed with the prosecution.

“We will always seek to prosecute sex offenders, when our legal requirements are met, no matter how difficult.”

During an appearance at London’s Southwark Crown Court in October, the musician pleaded not guilty and a provisional trial date was set for January 3, 2023.

In recent years, he has collaborated with US rappers including Tyler, The Creator and in March won his first UK number one album with his fourth studio album Who Cares?

In July, he canceled a string of scheduled September and November performances in Australia, New Zealand and Europe due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
