Shane MacGowan’s wife thanked fans for their well wishes as she updated the health status of the hospitalized singer Pogues

Shane MacGowan’s wife thanked fans for “sending well wishes” to the singer, who she said was being treated for an infection in hospital but would be “fine”.

Earlier this week, Victoria Mary Clarke announced online that the Pogues singer is being treated in hospital.

But last night she wrote on Twitter that the doctors were “confident he will be fine.”

Ms Clarke said: “I just wanted to thank everyone who sent well wishes to @ShaneMacGowan. He is being treated for an infection and doctors are confident he will be fine. I am extremely grateful to them and all of you.”

The update has so far received more than 2,000 likes and fans have flooded Ms Clarke’s Twitter with well wishes for her husband.

One man replied, “Thank God for that. I admire Shane’s music. I fell in love with it when I was 13… and that only got stronger over time. Send positive thoughts.”

Another wrote: “Great news Victoria. Shane is a beloved national treasure.

“Glad he’s making progress.”

One woman added: “That’s great news! I’m so glad he’ll be fine! Thank you for sharing the update. Be strong. Shane is a warrior and is still praying for us as well as you.”

Another fan said they hope MacGowan will be a “Christmas home”.

MacGowan, born on Christmas Day, is confined to a wheelchair after accidents in 2015 and 2021. The singer fell and broke his knee at home last year.

And in 2015, the Fairytale of New York singer broke her pelvis after a fall while leaving the recording studio.

The couple have been together for over 35 years and got married in 2018 in Copenhagen.

Musician born in Pembury, Kent, to Irish parents who immigrated from Dublin and Tipperary, is internationally known for his musical portfolio with The Pogues.

The 64-year-old told The Guardian in October, after the gallery in London’s Knightsbridge sold most of his art: “I’m human too. I am a primate. I am an animal and an animal has a soul. I believe we all have a big soul. Everyone on this planet.” Shane MacGowan’s wife thanked fans for their well wishes as she updated the health status of the hospitalized singer Pogues
