He said: “I was playing the drag queen and I got the phone and he (executive producer Chris Clenshaw) sold it to me.

“He said he wanted the old Alfie. Over the years there have been many different Alfies and my favorite was from 2002 to 2005 and it was the Alfie that we got back.

“Chris is the tool that tells me the long story line with Alfie, old Alfie, the guy who takes care of his Nana Moon, has his heart on his sleeve and tries to clear things up but still with innocence. and your own innocence. misunderstand.

“The movie only works on a show like this if you get the light and the shade – I’m happy to come and bring the light.

“I’m happy to come and play the joker because it means the drama is so much bigger.”

Executive producer Chris Clenshaw said: “I think it’s inevitable. Phil and Kat are together. Alfie was the love of Kat’s life so we had to bring him back on their wedding day.

“He’s the old Alfie, a lovely delinquent. He makes a lot of mistakes but he always has good intentions.

“Even if we didn’t tell this story, I probably think I’ve found a way to bring Alfie back. I love Alfie, an iconic character. It’s been 20 years this year.”

Alfie and Kat’s fiery relationship was at the center of many major stories but their union abruptly ended in 2018 when it was discovered that Alfie had secretly fathered a son with cousin Hayley.

Moon decided to run away from Walford in January 2019, becoming an enemy of Phil in the process.

“Twenty years ago, the whole thing about Kat and Alfie was purely coincidental,” says Richie.

“When I showed up 20 years ago, they would create a graduation story with Alfie and Peggy and then Jessie and I had a good laugh and the writers saw this chemistry.

“Alfie is still burning candles. He’s trying to convince Kat that she feels the same way. Myself and Jessie, when we worked together, we had a relationship. “

Moon first appeared on EastEnders in November 2002 and is at the center of a storyline about dementia, death in a crib, and infidelity. Shane Richie lured back to EastEnders with promise to play ‘old Alfie’
