Shane Warne’s children kiss his coffin at the funeral as stars gather to bid the cricket icon farewell

The sports legend passed away earlier this month, leaving behind a son and two daughters. Stars including Dannii Minogue and Michael Clarke joined the Warne family for the funeral in Australia on Sunday.

Australian cricket legend Warne said goodbye with a private funeral

Cricket legend Shane Warne’s family paid tribute as friends, celebrities and the star’s closest friends gathered to say goodbye to him.

The sporting icon passed away earlier this month after a suspected heart attack and died aged just 52.

The Australian sports star is survived by 52-year-old ex-wife Simone Callahan, to whom he was married from 1995 to 2005, and their three children; Son Jackson, 23, and daughters Brooke, 24, and Summer, 20.

Emotional scenes were captured as Shane’s family and friends watched a procession at St Kilda Football Ground in Melbourne on Sunday.

His son Jackson lovingly kissed his late father’s coffin at the end of the procession, while the classic The Best by Tina Turner played in the background.

Shane’s coffin was wrapped in a St Kilda Saints shawl while Jackson, Shane’s brother Jason and others carried the star’s coffin during the Sunday service.

The sports star’s youngest daughter, Summer, was in tears as the service drew to a close while his eldest daughter, Brooke, looked on from behind sunglasses.

Other music played during the intimate funeral included (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes from the 1987 film Dirty Dancing and Coldplay’s Fix You.

Those in attendance raised their glasses as the hearse rolled Shane’s coffin across the grounds.

While a dress code required guests to wear St Kilda Saints scarves, a nod to Shane’s favorite AFL team.

Celebrities including Dannii Minogue, Michael Clarke and Merv Hughes were in attendance and joined the Warne family as they paid their last respects to the sports star.

Former fiancée Elizabeth Hurley previously said she was unfortunately unable to attend Sunday’s ceremony as she was kept away from Australia due to work commitments.

The heartbroken actress shared a series of photos of the star on her Instagram page on Saturday and wrote: “My heart aches not being able to be in Australia for Shane’s funeral tomorrow.

“I was filming last night and I can’t physically get there due to the time warp. These pictures were taken in Sri Lanka to celebrate our engagement – we all had our children with us and it was the happiest of times.

“It still hasn’t really become clear that he’s gone. It seems too cruel that all the people who loved him will never have a lion hug again, but our memories will live forever.

“RIP Lionheart, with love, your Luna.”

The sports world was shocked on March 4 when it was announced that Shane had died suddenly after arriving in Thailand with friends for a holiday.

Reports later confirmed that the star had died of natural causes.

Victorian Prime Minister Daniel Andrews announced shortly after the death that the sports star would receive a state funeral later this month at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

He tweeted, “There’s no better place on earth to say goodbye to Warnie than the ‘G’.”

The state funeral is expected to take place on March 30th.
