The family of late cricketer Shane Warne is ‘shattered’ and feels trapped in a ‘bad dream’ after his sock death.
The sports star died on Friday in Thailand aged just 52 after a suspected heart attack.
Shane’s longtime manager, James Erskine, has given an update on the cricketer’s family and says they are devastated by their loss.
Shane was married to 52-year-old model Simone Callahan from 1995 to 2005 and they had three children together; Son Jackson, 23, and daughters Brooke, 24, and Summer, 20.
James said on Nine Network’s Today morning show in Australia on Sunday: “The three children are in complete shock.
“I spoke to them yesterday and … Jackson just said, ‘We’re expecting him to come in the door. It’s like a bad dream’.”
He added, “Keith, Shane’s dad, is quite a strong person but like everyone he’s just devastated, they can’t believe what happened.”
Shane’s son Jackson opened up about their relationship in a recent interview with Men’s Health, saying he’s “happy” to be the sports star’s son.
He explained: “I only see dad as dad. I can’t compare him to other parents.
“I can always remember just smiling. So I think he did a great job. And I’m proud of him.
“For me, all I had to realize was that I didn’t choose who my dad was and what he did was freaking awesome.”
Those closest to Shane have paid tribute since the shock news of his death broke.
Former fiancee Elizabeth Hurley, who dated the athlete between 2011 and 2013, was among those who expressed grief.
Sharing a collection of photos of Shane on her Instagram page, the 56-year-old wrote: “I feel like the sun has gone behind a cloud forever.
“RIP my beloved lionheart.”
Meanwhile, Elizabeth’s 19-year-old son, Damian Shane, also paid tribute and shared more photos of him on Instagram.
The teen wrote, “Still trying to take care of it…
“SW was a father figure to me for most of my childhood and was truly one of the best men I have ever known.
“My heart is broken. Thinking of SW family and sending love to them.”
Meanwhile, Shane’s family is facing a “red tape nightmare” to have his body flown back to Australia from Thailand, where he was vacationing with friends on the island of Koh Samui.
Thai police insist an autopsy must be carried out to determine the cause of death before he can be returned home.
Shane’s friend Andrew Neophitou – who fought for 20 minutes to save Shane’s life when he found his body on Friday – has expressed the family’s urgency in bringing the late star’s body home.
He said on Saturday: “We really just want to bring Shane home.”
Thai Lt-Colonel Chatchawin Nakmusik told The Guardian: “I’m waiting for the autopsy report. If there is nothing suspicious, the case is closed. The family is responsible for bringing the body back to their home country.”
