Sharon Osbourne announces new TV show after quitting The Talk

Sharon Osbourne reckons British TV shows are more willing to give airtime to people with different views than the US industry, which leaves them behind.

The former X Factor judge, 69, is hosting a panel show discussing the day’s hottest stories on new television network TalkTV.

It airs weekday evenings after Piers Morgan’s flagship show on the channel.

Ms O’s 11-year stint on American daytime show The Talk ended after an on-air spat she had with another panelist in March 2021 over Morgan’s right to voice his view that he didn’t believe a word of Meghan Markle Markle during her explosive interview with US television queen Oprah Winfrey.

In response, Sheryl Underwood challenged Sharon’s defense of the former Good Morning Britain presenter, asking: “What would you say to people who might feel while you’re standing by your friend it seems like you’ve confirmed something or a safe one Port given He said something racist even if you disagree?”

Filming of the show was then halted for a month.

Despite Sharon’s suggestion that The Talk air a one-off special featuring experts on sensitivity training and racism, “that will go through what we’ve all said and come to a conclusion so the viewer can make their own decision,” the show’s network continued, CBS, continued statement, which read: “Sharon Osbourne has decided to leave The Talk.

“As part of our review, we concluded that Sharon’s behavior toward her co-hosts during the March 10 episode was not consistent with our values for a respectful workplace.”

She is now returning to the UK with her husband Ozzy – former Black Sabbath lead singer – although the couple regularly return to the States to see their grandchildren.

Speaking about her new venture and why she’s excited to be back working in the UK, Sharon said at a TalkTV press event: “It feels right. I’ve been very homesick for a while and it’s a pleasure to go back.

“I’m really excited about it. It’s a whole new thing for me to be involved in a network from the beginning. I don’t like these shows that they produce here (in America) if you don’t agree they start throwing chairs at each other and yelling at each other.

“It’s not personal, it’s someone’s opinion. So if you don’t like it, you tell the person why you don’t like it and why you don’t agree with them, and move on.”

On the new TalkTV show, five headstrong celebrities with diverse views and backgrounds will take part in an hour-long panel discussion on topical issues.

Explaining the show’s premise, Sharon added: “This is basically just the news with different views on it, mostly experts and I’m no expert but I definitely have an opinion on everything. It’s new, it’s innovative, and it’s a place for anyone interested in what’s going on in the world, where to go without being told what to think.

“We don’t tell anyone to think the way we think. We’re just opening up the conversation so people can talk at home, even after we’re done.

“It’s a friendly debate, a friendly discussion, and I’m not talking about sitting there arm in arm. Nothing is off the table and we’re just finding a place where you can discuss these things in a mature way and without fear of being let loose.”
