Sharon Osbourne once tried to strangle Piers Morgan, but talk show host Jerry Springer intervened and pulled her off.
Piers, 57, and Sharon, 69, are currently preaching about free speech and the benefits of healthy debate while trying to generate interest in their latest project together.
The pair have both landed brand new TV hosting gigs, which they predict will engage in “heavy debates” during their respective shows.
“Real friendship should give you that openness to be so honest. That’s what you do with people who are real friends,” Sharon said The sun during a joint interview with Piers.
“You can say what you feel, you can get really mad at each other and fuck, we’ll be back the next day.”
But Sharon and the former Good Morning Britain presenter didn’t always see eye to eye.
When the mother-of-three joined the America’s Got Talent team in 2007, one dinner got awkward when Sharon tried to strangle the father-of-four.
Recalling the experience on Loose Women in 2017, Piers said: “I get a call saying there will be a judge change and Sharon will be joining. I found it awkward as I’ve written some unflattering things about her.
“We went to dinner, Ozzy was there, dinner was fine.
“I said something confrontational, but next Sharon ran behind me – all the executives were there – and started strangling me to death.
He continued, “Ozzy tried to pull them off. In the end, Jerry Springer of all people had to pull it off.”
Both Sharon and Piers are launching their new shows on Talk TV later this month – Sharon’s first TV venture since her controversial exit from The View last year.
The star opted to leave the American talk show in March 2021 after a heated discussion of racism on the air, along with allegations of racist comments, led to an internal investigation by CBS.
The on-air incident came as Sharon launched an impassioned defense of her pal Piers, who recently quit Good Morning Britain over his controversial comments about Meghan Markle and her experience with poor mental health.
“Like Nelson Mandela getting out of prison, it’s like the long road to free speech,” Piers explained in his new interview.
“People say there is no such thing as an abortion culture, tell that to Sharon. She spent a year in the wild unemployed in America, where she was a big star for decades.”
“Your crime was simply to tweet that I am entitled to my opinion. She didn’t even agree to that.”
Piers then went on to elaborate on what he believes is “culture canceling” – claiming it is just as dangerous as the deadly viral disease Covid-19.
