Happy Mondays’ Shaun Ryder says he has ‘underactive thyroid’ and now has to take medication. The musician opened up about his health difficulties

Happy Mondays ‘Shaun Ryder reveals he’s taken ‘more pills now’ than in his prime when he provided a health update.
The star, who has appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox, said he has ‘no thyroid’ and has to take medication for it.
He makes sure to stay upbeat and jokes that he’s taking more pills now than he ever did in the past.
Singer tells Daily Star : “It’s because I don’t have a thyroid, I’m underactive which makes you fat and bald but then things start to go down and you have to take a lot of medicine.
“And now I don’t produce testosterone so I take more pills now than I did in 1988.”

The singer has had many health problems over the years, with Shaun previously revealing he discovered a non-cancerous cyst in his testicle.
At the time, it was Covid-19 lockdown and he was unable to undergo surgery to remove the benign cysts.
Speaking to The Sun, Shaun said: “I had one, now I have two, and they are an absolute pain. I just continued to take the pills and painkillers because they were affecting the nerves in my body. ”
Explaining more about his condition, he continued: “They did the cancer tests – I got it all figured out.”
Shaun has also been dealing with severe pain from arthritis, as well as battling a thyroid problem and suffering from panic attacks.

Shaun has had a wild life and has opened up about it in her book How to Be a Rock Star as well as with journalists.
He revealed that he was once fired from his job after biting a dog while he was on LSD.
Shaun previously admitted to battling a heroin addiction for 20 years – as well as losing his teeth to crystal meth and cracking cocaine.
In fact, his past is so insane that fans sometimes give him drugs when they see him in public.
Writing in his autobiography, he revealed that he was even offered “a line” of cocaine while running errands in his local Asda.
“I still get people coming to me in Asda or TK Maxx offering me a line, for my benefit,” he said. ‘I’m almost 60, man, and you really think I want to write a line in TK Maxx on a Tuesday afternoon?’.
“Sometimes I just laugh, sometimes it makes me feel uncomfortable – it depends on my mood.”
