‘Shaun Ryder looks for Fame in the Family to be the top teatime show and I’m hooked’ – Ian Hyland

Family fame is Channel 4’s new promotion, and after enduring the sublime stories of Craig Revel Horwood, Happy Monday star Shaun Ryder got the party going.

blank

As you will surely recall, one of the greatest television moments of this century occurred when actress Amanda Redman appeared on Who Do You Think You Are? back in 2013.

It happened when Amanda knocked on the door of her long-lost distant cousin Karen and like all of us were stunned to discover Karen looked EXACTLY like her.

I’m pretty sure someone on Channel 4 remembers. It certainly explains Fame In The Family, a cheap and cheerful teatime show that, if I’ll be honest, only slightly messed up my radar on Monday when Craig Revel Horwood appeared in court with these sentences. the story of his family’s high forehead, crooked nose, and wrinkled fingers.

By Tuesday? I was completely hooked. That’s when four random strangers meet Shaun Ryder over lunch to find out if any of them are related to the former Happy Mondays leader animal.

On the surface, three out of four could easily be Shaun’s children.

I’m sure that thought must have crossed Shaun’s mind as well, especially given his wild escapes in the 1990s, when his life carried more MDMA than DNA.

However, this is not the stinging operation of the CSA. It was simply five people armed with genealogical records, playing a friendly game of Match The Family Tree.

Perhaps, after the weekend’s Jeremy Kyle leak, Channel 4 is keen to show the fun side of DNA tests.

Shaun Ryder is to discover if he has a new relative or not

And it’s fun, especially if you’ve forgotten what it feels like to watch celebrities chat with ordinary people instead of their showbiz peers.

I also enjoy the flimsy clues and red stories that will help the Ted Rogers 3-2-1 trivia writers make their money.

How cool are these clues?

Put it this way, when Kerry Katona was the guest of honor this afternoon, I would be heartbroken if none of the contestants said, “My nan used to buy some shrimp rings from Iceland.”
