On screen, they play brother and sister – but in real life they are in a relationship.
Sheridan Smith, who returns to our screens tonight for the thrilling finale in the No Return series, began dating James Corden in 2007.
They came together on James’ show Gavin and Stacey, where he played the lovable goofy Smithy and Sheridan was cast as his nasty sister Rudi.
Sheridan doesn’t have many scenes but they are memorable, such as Smithy and Rudi grappling with land and performing Kanye West’s rapping on Estelle’s hit American Boy.
But the first love affair broke up in 2008 – and rumors began to surface that James was trying to pursue something with singer Lily Allen.
When asked if he was single, James replied cryptically: “It’s complicated.”

James was accused of flirting with Lily while he was being interviewed on her BBC talk show, Lily Allen and Friends.
James tells Lily he thinks “how lovely she is” before telling her to “just ignore all those people right there” while pointing at the audience.
In response, Lily joked to James that “just f**k her”.
This got the audience cheering, while Lily said, “Thanks so much… that’s how you wear a girl’s pants. Well done, James.”
She then asked the late-night talk show host if he was single, to which he gave a mysterious “complicated” answer.
In 2017, Lily stated that she didn’t want to shut James down when he “came to” her for fear of being labeled “cold” or “snobbish”.
James attempted to start a romance with Lily, but claimed that they never went further than friends.
“I guess I went out with Lily a total of four or five times after that – and not one time was a proper date. It always seemed to involve other people than just the two of us,” he said. said in 2011.
“I’ve made it my goal to make Lily mine. I guess we’re friends but for my part, I definitely want more. The last time I went to her was when reality dawned on me.”
Lily leaves James at her house and leads him to an empty room, so James realizes that they are only destined to be friends.
He added: “So I want to thank Lily for forgiving such a silly crush.”
In a shock, James turned around and went back to Sheridan the following February.
“Yes, Sheridan and I are back together and it’s going brilliantly,” he told The Mirror in 2008, declaring her “the love of my life”.
And wedding bells rang as he added, “I couldn’t be happier. I want to marry my girl.”
However, marriage could not be far from Sheridan’s mind because she had completely different ideas.
Years later, the actress said: “I was very wild back then. I was not in the mood to settle down.”
The couple previously split amicably in 2009 and James admitted that he started partying a lot and feared his life was spiraling out of control.
“I’m heartbroken and lost,” he told The Times.
“I had a relationship with Sheridan that was heartbreaking, when you think something might work and it doesn’t. And I feel a bit lost.
“And feeling lost, and feeling heartbroken, and feeling single for the first time in your adult life, right at the moment you’ve become a little bit famous, is a pretty powerful mix. “
Less than 12 months later, James met philanthropist Julia Carey through his co-star and The History Boys co-star Dominic Copper.
The couple married in 2012 and have three children together – Max, Carey and Charlotte.
While Sheridan became engaged to insurance broker Jamie Horn after meeting on the dating app Tinder and gave birth to son Billy in May 2020.
But the pair previously announced they had split last year and Sheridan reunited with ex-boyfriend Alex Lawler.
As for James and Sheridan, the actress explained that she is still interested in the American talk show host.
Seeming to have confirmed there is no animosity on her part, she recently said: “I have no contact with James – he lives in the US. If I saw him here, we would hug.
“I have a lot of love for him but we don’t see each other.”
But Gavin and Stacey fans questioned why Sheridan didn’t appear in the long-awaited Christmas special in 2019.
Most of the original cast reunited in 2019 to shoot the long-awaited Christmas special – but Sheridan was a notable absentee
When asked if she would be in, the pregnant star told Radio 2’s Zoe Ball: “I wish. No, I wouldn’t. I don’t think so anyway.”
Her character Rudi didn’t appear in the much-anticipated festival version of the BBC comedy, which was a huge hit with viewers, but Sheridan has since erased it on social media.
She then added: “I’ve only been on 4 episodes. Why do they need to bring me back? There’s no drama between me and James. And no story. Relax! In More news…Happy Wednesday.”
But Sheridan admitted she would jump at the chance to return to the film and would hug James if they ever met again.
“I will definitely be back for a series,” she said Sun in March 2020.
