Lincolnshire: Human remains found in duck pond
Police have launched an investigation after a human skull was found in a duck pond in a remote corner of farmland.
Lincolnshire Police officers quickly cordoned off the area after the grisly find with a forensic tent protecting the scene.
Investigators were reportedly spotted examining where the remains were discovered by a member of the public Grimsby Live.
A woman who lives on a nearby farm in Lincolnshire told the newspaper: “Police were here at dawn. It was around 4 a.m. Someone found a human skull. It’s a shock.
“Everyone’s asking questions about who it could be and how long they’ve been there. It’s sad because it’s someone’s brother or sister or maybe a parent. The guy who found it said it has teeth, but nobody knows how long it’s been there.”

The woman said she didn’t know if other body parts were found at the scene. Another local resident said: “You don’t expect something like this to happen next to you. We are all curious. More investigators have arrived this morning and there is more activity at the crime scene.”
The local resident added: “The ditches are usually filled with water. But if it gets hot like today, they can dry out.”
Investigators will be investigating the area around Duck Pond near Pear Tree Lane in Fulstow and attempting to connect a link to people on the missing persons register.
Work is also being carried out by pathologists to try to match them with DNA lists kept by the National Crime Agency of people registered as missing.

The field where the remains were found today runs alongside the former Grimsby to Louth railway line.
A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “Police officers and forensic scientists are at Duck Pond in Pear Tree Lane, Fulstow, following a report of a human skull found by a member of the public.
“Our control room was called by a member of the public who reported that the bone was in the pond around 12.37pm on Thursday
“We believe this could be a human skull, but this is determined by an in-depth forensic examination of the skull, which can take up to several weeks. The area has been cordoned off and we expect to remain in the area conducting a full search over the weekend and into Monday.”
This isn’t the first time human remains have been found in the area, with a severed foot believed to have belonged to a young woman found on a trail in the New Waltham area about 10km away in 2019 .
So far, there is nothing to suggest that these two incidents are related.
