Explained about Genesect drives in Pokemon Go

Genesect is an artificial pokemon that has one slot in Pokemon lore, and keeping the slots different allows it to change its Techno Blast movement pattern.

The light on its cannon indicates the drive it is holding and the associated Techno Blast attack:

  • Normal (orange): Normal style move
  • Burn Drive (red): Fire style move
  • Shock Drive (yellow): Electric move
  • Chill Drive (white): Ice-style move
  • Douse Drive (blue): Water style move

Pokemon Go treats the above as individual pokemon, instead of allowing you to switch drives like in other games of the series.

So you’ll need to capture each one if you want a Genesect with every Techno Blast attack.

When is the Shock Drive Genesect in Pokemon Go?

What about being a Legend, you won’t find a Genesect outside of raids in Pokemon Go.

Shock Drive Genesect launches in Pokemon Go on Saturday, January 15, and will remain in the game until 10 a.m. local time on Monday, January 24.

Raid hours for the Shock Drive Genesect are set for Wednesday, January 19, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time.

So far, we’ve seen Genesect Normal and Burn Drive in Pokemon Go, with Shock, Chill, and Douse yet to appear.

There is also no Genesect Shiny Shock Drive in this week’s Pokemon Go, as confirmed by Niantic Blog about Pokemon Go.

How to hit and catch the Shock Drive Genesect in Pokemon Go

Genesect is a Bug/Steel-type pokemon, so ignore the nest it’s holding as it has nothing to do with using it to defeat it.

This type of pokemon is only weak to fire, and since both Bugs and Steels are vulnerable to this element, Genesect takes quadruple damage.

As well as a strong Fire party – ideally made up of legendary or fully evolved pokemon – try to team up with other players instead of going it alone.

Recommended Fire-type pokemon to join the Shock Drive Genesect include:

  • Mega Charizard Y (Fire Spin, Blast Burn)
  • Mega Charizard X (Fire Spin, Blast Burn)
  • Mega Houndoom (Flame Fan, Flamethrower)
  • Reshiram (Fang Fire, Overheating)
  • Chandelure (Ring of Fire, Overheating)
  • Heatran (Ring of Fire, Flamethrower)

These are just a few suggestions, so go through your pokemon for ones that are likely to be candicate, which are also immune to Bug and Steel attacks.
