Shooter accused of stealing Lady Gaga’s dogs has been falsely freed from prison

A gunman accused of shooting and seriously injuring Lady Gaga’s dog walker and stealing her two French bulldogs has been falsely released from prison.

Ames Jackson, 19, was facing an attempted murder charge when he was released from the Los Angeles County Jail Wednesday “due to a clerical error,” the sheriff’s department said.

The sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau is working to locate him, a spokesman said.

Jackson was one of five people arrested in connection with the February 24, 2021 attack in Hollywood.

Prosecutors said Jackson and two other suspected gang members drove around in search of expensive French bulldogs to steal and then spotted, followed and robbed Ryan Fischer while walking Lady Gaga’s dogs near Sunset Boulevard.

During a violent struggle, Mr Fischer was beaten, choked and then shot in an attack caught by the doorbell camera of a nearby house.

The camera caught the dog walker screaming, “Oh my god. I was shot!” and “Help me!” and “I’m bleeding from my chest”.

Mr Fischer lost part of a lung.

“While I am deeply concerned about the events leading up to his release, I am confident that law enforcement will correct the mistake,” Mr Fischer said in a statement seen by KABC-TV.

“I urge Mr. Jackson to turn himself in to the authorities to proceed with the investigation of the crime committed against me, whatever the outcome of the courts.”

The pop star’s dogs were returned two days later by a woman who claimed she found them tied to a pole and asked about Lady Gaga’s offer of a $500,000 reward if the dogs were returned “no questions asked.” The singer was in Rome at the time to shoot a film.

She has been accused of receiving stolen property and another suspect’s father is accused of helping him avoid arrest.

Jackson had already pleaded not guilty when the district attorney’s office on Tuesday filed a replacement charge against him on counts of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a robbery and assault with a semi-automatic firearm.

The move was taken “to expedite the court process,” and Jackson was charged on Wednesday under a new case number, prosecutors said in a statement.

“Mr. Jackson was subsequently released from custody by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. We are not sure why they did this,” the statement said.
