Shoreham archer secures Great Britain silver at World Games

An archer from SUSSEX secured medal success after winning silver at the 2022 World Games in the United States.

Shoreham’s Bryony Pitman won the medal in the women’s individual recurve competition and brought another archery medal for Great Britain from the Games.

After defeating Urska Cavic of Slovenia in the semifinals, Bryony fought Italy’s Chiara Rebagliatil for gold in Birmingham, Alabama.

The win follows her multiple medal success at the first stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Antalya 2022 in April.

The 25-year-old secured three medals at the international competition, winning gold in the Recurve Women’s Individual and Recurve Women’s Team Finals alongside teammates Jaspreet Sagoo and Penny Healy.

She also achieved silver in the recurve mixed team competition alongside Alex Wise.

Speaking of her recent success and performance at the World Games, Bryony said: “To be around so many athletes from other sports is quite inspiring and it’s nice to see how interested other British athletes have been in each other’s events.

“The humidity was challenging at times and kept focus in the heat, especially in the final where the heat came from the stage.

“It was difficult, but everyone was struggling with the same problem. I had a great time and it’s great to be able to show archery off the field more than usual.

“I’m very happy with the medal, but not so much with my performance. I haven’t had the easiest time shooting lately no matter what the results. A silver medal is great and I’m proud of it, but I also know that I can do a lot better.

“I think getting those results when I’m not 100 per cent there is a good place to be though.”

Bryony will also compete in the Medellin 2022 Hyundai Archery World Cup Stage Four in Columbia later this week.

She made her Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Games last year and finished ninth in both the individual and women’s teams and previously competed at the Summer Youth Olympic Games.
