Shoreham thug jailed after kicking cops in head

A VIOLENT criminal who kicked a police officer in the head has been jailed for less than a year.

George Cain, 30, of East Street in Shoreham, has been sentenced to 42 weeks in prison after a series of aggressive incidents.

Police were called to Shoreham on November 13 last year over reports of an attack.

When the police wanted to arrest Cain on suspicion of the crime, he attacked the two officers and resisted arrest.

Cain repeatedly punched an officer and then kicked him in the head.

The officer said: “In my service with Sussex Police I have never witnessed the level of violence shown by Cain.”

Cain also attacked Sergeant Jemma Cranfield. She said: “In my 18 years with Sussex Police, this is only the second time I’ve had to press my 911 button for urgent help.”

Security guards from a nearby bar, along with other officers, entered to detain Cain.

Cain also committed 12 robberies at the Co-op store in Shoreham between February 14 and May 14 this year.

He was also stopped by an off-duty police officer on the A27 near Crossbush before going through a red light.

Cain took a curbside DrugWipe test, which tested positive for cocaine, but refused to provide a blood sample. He tested for 57 micrograms (mcg) of alcohol per 100 milliliters (mL) of breath. The legal limit is 35 µg of alcohol per 100 ml of breathing air.

He appeared in Worthing Magistrates’ Court on August 8, where he admitted to the following offences: assault involving actual bodily harm and assault on a public worker; Twelve counts of shoplifting, drunk driving, taking a vehicle without owner’s consent, driving other than in accordance with a driver’s license, driving without valid insurance and failure to provide a sample for analysis of suspected drug driving.

After the fall, Sgt. Cranfield said, “Cain’s attacks on officers were disgraceful.

“We shouldn’t have to contend with the level of violence and abuse that has been shown.

“Cain later repeatedly stole from a co-op store and then took a vehicle belonging to someone he knew and drove while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. He endangered his own safety and the safety of other road users.

“The court has recognized the seriousness of Cain’s prolific offense and we are pleased that a violent criminal has been removed from our streets.” Shoreham thug jailed after kicking cops in head
