Judy Rock, wife of Irish show band legend Dickie Rock, has died in a Dublin hospital.
rs Rock, 75, was treated at St Vincent’s Hospital for several weeks after contracting Covid-19 but sadly died earlier in the evening.
A person close to the family said the Dublin singer was “devastated by the loss” of his wife, who is in her 50s.
It comes as both Dickie and Judy contracted Covid-19 last month.
Dickie Rock (85) was doing very poorly and suffering from flu-like symptoms but was able to recover at home.
However, Judy required hospital treatment and was eventually placed in intensive care.
Dickie Rock and Judy Murray married in 1966 and have five children.
In 2020 Judy, who was suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, underwent knee surgery at Beacon Hospital in Dublin.
At the time, Rock spoke of how difficult it was for him to stay at their Donnybrook home without Judy by his side.
In 2019, after more than six decades in the spotlight, Rock announced that it was retiring from the live music circuit.
He said he would only do one-off gigs, but last year he confirmed his gig days were over, partly due to hearing problems.
Tributes were paid to Judy Rock by close family friends and members of the Irish showband scene.
Musician Paddy Cole narrates Independent.ie that Judy was a “real lady”.
“We’ve known Judy and Dickie all our lives, Helen and I. She was a real lady and we were so sorry to hear she was in intensive care,” he said.
“It’s very sad. It’s very sad for all of us in the business. Judy was a real lady and I loved meeting her. I’ve done a lot of concerts with Dickie over the years and every time Judy was there, I loved sitting with her and talking to her, she loved going to the shows and she was very special.
“And they are a nice family. We are all heartbroken for the family now.”
