The success of “Shrek 2” is real Unbelievable. The film became the highest-grossing film worldwide in 2004, remains the most successful film release in the history of DreamWorks Animation and was nominated for two Academy Awards.
Vernon is not returning to direct “Shrek the Third,” instead focusing on an original project with Rob Letterman, DreamWorks Animation’s comedy, “Monsters Vs. Aliens.” The film didn’t attract the same huge numbers as “Shrek 2”, but did inspire a number of specials and a Nickelodeon series inspired by the film. Vernon was next to co-direct “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” with Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath. From there, he turned to an entirely different direction from animation and co-directed with Greg Tiernan one of the highest-grossing R-rated films in history, “Sausage Party”.
A departure from the family-friendly world of animation, “Sausage Party” is a raunchy Disney and Pixar parody with a screenplay by comedians Kyle Hunter, Ariel Shaffir, Seth Rogen, and Evan Goldberg. Vernon’s success with “Shrek” films makes him the perfect choice to direct a film like “Sausage Party” and his continued financial success proves he knows what he’s doing. Most recently, Vernon has gone on to co-direct with Tiernan on “The Addams Family” and “The Addams Family 2,” and was at one point attached to direct a film based on “The Jetsons.”
Cartoons take a long time so we’re not sure what will happen next for Vernon, but if there’s one thing we can predict, it’s going to be hilarious and earn tons of cash.
