Sibling Loss: “The grief was so physical and so tangible … I actually thought I was having some kind of a breakdown”

My sister Triona became ill in November 2016. She had nausea and vomiting for weeks. Her GP told her that a terrible gastrointestinal virus was circulating and that it would go away in time. Triona had Crohn’s disease, so she was very used to being unwell. She was one of those people who could function very well [when she was sick]while the rest of us would go to bed.

But she knew herself that it was more than a stomach worm. It was taking too long and because she had been ill for so long in her twenties she was really aware of her own body. She went to her GP a few times and they were adamant that it was just a mistake.
