Significant reshoots take place after Disney test audiences became disillusioned with some filming in Enniskerry

MAJOR reshoots of Disney film ‘Disenchanted’, filmed in Ireland last summer, are taking place due to mixed reactions during test screening.

E-shoots began last week in the UK in the village of Hambleden in Buckinghamshire, south-east England.

The main cast, along with numerous extras, are involved in re-shooting scenes similar to those in the Wicklow village of Enniskerry last year, drawing thousands of viewers to the medieval set.

The English Village has been redesigned with flowers and signs, while the buildings have been decorated to appear like fairytale-style shops, similar to those in Enniskerry.

New recordings will also take place in New York City and are expected to continue through the end of this month.

Hollywood Stars Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey, who are the main actors, have been spotted in costume at several locations in the UK. Dempsey will make his singing debut in the film.

Filming in Ireland concluded last August after four months of filming in Dublin, Louth and Wicklow.

An industry source said: “They (the production team) had to reshoot some scenes. On March 28, in Buckinghamshire, England, re-recordings were made due to mixed reception at a test screening. New recordings will also take place in New York City and are expected to continue through April.”

The Disney+ animated romantic musical comedy is the sequel to the 2007 fantasy film Enchanted.

It’s a massive-budget production that sees Adams reprise her role as Giselle, an animated woman who is set to marry Prince Edward. She finds herself trapped in the real world. The film switches from animation to live action.

She meets dashing divorce attorney Robert (played by Dempsey) and soon finds out that life in the real world, with all its real problems, isn’t so bad after all. She realizes that true love can find you when you least expect it.

It remains unclear whether large parts of the film will be reworked – potentially causing a release delay – or if just a few scenes will be tweaked following complaints about test screenings.

The original release date was supposed to be late this year, but that could now be pushed back to next year.

The film is directed by Adam Shankman from hairspray fame and produced by Barry Josephson who worked on Enchanted and TV series bone. It will also feature new songs by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, whose work on Enchanted earned them critical acclaim.
