But some people may still be unaware of the nasty illness it causes, and can spread it even further.

The symptoms of Covid has changed a lot since it first appeared in the UK.

While in the past it almost always caused fever, high temperature and loss of smell or taste, not so much anymore.

According to the UK Health and Security Service, only 13% of people with Omicron lose their sense of smell or taste.

That compares with 34% of those with the Delta strain – the former dominant strain – and about half of those with the original “Wuhan” strain.

A sore throat is more common in people with Omicron, affecting more than half of those infected.

However, Britons may not be used to these new signs of infection, instead waiting until they have a cough or loss of taste to bother getting tested or isolated.

With the NHS not updating its symptom list since May 2020, many people could be missing out on new signs of the virus, experts say.

But you will be really worried if your housemate or loved one complains of sore throat and headache.

Perhaps your sibling or partner sneezes more often than usual, can’t finish dinner, or their voice becomes hoarse or choking – all signs of Covid.

They may complain that they just feel a bit “under the weather,” with extreme fatigue or low energy.

Phil Day, Pharmacist Director at Pharmacy2UExpected symptoms of a Covid infection according to the NHS website are a high temperature, new persistent cough and loss or change of smell or taste.

“However, there are some new symptoms seems to be related to the Omicron variant and could be considered potentially related to Covid.

“Some of these are symptoms similar to those of the common cold, such as a headache or sore throat.

“However, evidence suggests that a number of other symptoms may be associated with Omicron infection, such as loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. backache.

“While it should be clear that not every case of nausea or back pain is Covid-related, it makes sense for everyone to be aware of these potential symptoms.

“And if there’s any doubt about your Fallopian tube condition, use a lateral flow test – especially if you also have any of the ‘classic’ symptoms.”
