Simon Cowell has been candid about plans to tie the knot with his longtime partner Lauren Silverman – the woman who tamed the ex-bachelor’s heart.
The 62-year-old music mogul has been in a relationship with 44-year-old American businesswoman Lauren since 2013 and they have an eight-year-old son together named Eric.
Simon and Lauren finally got engaged at Christmas last year after the TV star popped the question after nearly nine years of dating.
Of his decision to settle down, Simon says lockdown has brought him and Lauren closer together and explains how his concern for his son’s future influenced his decision – and how the absolute horror at the mere prospect of ever dating someone in the anticipating the future convinced him to get on one knee.
He said The sun: “We were in the same house for over a year and I was like, ‘Well, actually, we get along really, really well.’
“And Eric gets asked more and more about his parents as he gets older and I thought it would be right for him.
“I just couldn’t imagine ever going out with anyone again. The idea of going out on a first date now is too weird.
“My mom and dad had a great marriage and I’ve always called them best friends and I think that’s a big part of it.
Simon went on to say that he’s very hands-on with the wedding, doing all the planning himself to avoid an over-the-top celebration.
He doesn’t want “600 people” on the guest list like he did for his 50th birthday 12 years ago – and he’s also banned working with a wedding planner.
And he even claims that the wedding plans are so secret that not even Lauren knows when or where they will take place.
Reports surfaced at the This Year star that Simon and Lauren were engaged after the X Factor boss popped the question last Christmas.
A source claimed in January: “Simon and Lauren are ridiculously, sickly in love – unbelievably, lockdown has brought them closer than ever.
“Lauren was absolutely stunned and never in a million years would have expected Simon to ask the question. She burst into tears – tears of joy – and obviously said ‘yes’ straight away.”
The source added that smitten Lauren had been his “rock” – after breaking his back in 2020 – and that the former Lothario knew he had to “put a ring on it” as Lauren became the “woman of his dreams”. may be.
Meanwhile, reports last month suggested the couple were planning to “snub” Hollywood and instead enjoy a star-studded UK wedding.
A source explained that because Simon “only gets married once” he wants everything to be perfect.
The source claimed bride-to-be Lauren “wants a beautiful, lavish event with all the people that have done them good over the years.”
And the source also revealed that they want their wedding to be a “big, star-studded event.”
