Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode have announced that their Radio 5 Live Movie Review is coming to an end.
The two’s radio shows show them discussing the latest movies and inviting actors, guests, and listening to emails from listeners.
Kermode and Mayo first appeared as a duo on BBC Radio 1 in the 1990s.
Their Radio 5 Live show started in 2001 and had the two spend the first hour ranking the top ten movies of the week.
And now, the official Twitter account has sadly revealed the ending to the long-running show.
“Simon Mayo has announced that Kermode and Mayo’s Film Review is coming to an end on @ bbc5live. The final performance will be on April 1,” it tweeted.
It is accompanied by an image quote.
“21 years is a long time to clog a schedule,” it read.
“We – and no one else – decided to walk away… To retreat… to spread our wings… to get out, being chased by a bear.”
Fans took to the comments section to share their memories of the show and say goodbye to the hosts.
“As a wise man once said… It’s all going to be okay in the end, and if it’s not okay, it’s not the end. Well, it’s okay & this really isn’t the end for you. , or us. Goodbye doctors and thanks for everything,” one said.
Another added: “Mark Kermode is someone I really admired when I started writing about movies. Simon Mayo is someone I’ve loved listening to for years since I was a kid.
“The combination of your voice and personality has inspired me for many years. Sad to see you go.”

One annoyed user posted: “Really sad that this is the case BUT happy for both of you to hang out on high.”
“What?!! Wahhh..!! While totally getting this from your point of view, this is terrible news. You’ve been with me through so many parts of my life, you’ve woven the fabric. so a lot of my stories. I feel like part of your community,” added one heartbroken fan.
Fans always look forward to Mayo reading audience reviews of the movies, many of which are reviews of never-before-seen Kermode movies.
After reading the comments, guests – such as the director and actors – appeared for pre-recorded interviews.
The radio show has had many guests over the years, including the likes of Jason Isaacs, Michael Sheen and David Morrissey.
At the end of each show, Kermode determines its ‘Movie of the Week’.
In May 2009, Mayo and Kermode won the Golden Sony Radio Award in the Speech Award category, for their continued good work and passion for radio.
