Michael Weeks is a single father to five-year-old Sylvia Weeks and has found the perfect trick to get her to try new things Food by turning their lunches and snacks into art.

Michael has transformed her meals into characters from her favorite films and TV shows – including Monsters Inc’s Mike Wazowski and Winnie-the-Pooh – as well as a range of other animals and scenes.

The 38-year-old production manager from Salisbury, Wiltshire has been creating the eye-catching tableware for three years and loves to involve his daughter in the creation of the plates.

Michael explained, “When I became single parenting, I wanted to try to get my daughter to eat healthier, she wanted chicken nuggets every night.

“My mother died when I was younger and cooking is the most important memory I have with her, so I wanted Sylvia to love cooking as much as I did.

“As a single dad I can’t do a typical hobby like going to the gym or going to the pub with my buddies so I have to get creative at home and we both enjoy doing that together.

“By helping her prepare, cut and cook the food, it encourages her to try new foods because she’s proud of what she’s created.

“Animal creations are the easiest to make, but Sylvia loves anything cute and girly, so we often make unicorns or mermaids.”

Michael says his food art was a success as he was able to encourage Sylvia to try new foods through his creative creations.

He added: “Since going to school she has developed an aversion to certain foods that her friends may not like, so I’m going to turn her into something nice to look at to encourage her to eat it.

“She’s really good at eating fruit and veg now and it’s been a great way to encourage her to learn more about food and what herbs go well together.

“I think it prepares her well for the future and I hope it helps her to learn to cook from a young age.

“When I cook without her, she comes into the kitchen and asks what she can do now to help.”
