Single mum pays £700 a month rent to live in a TENT because it’s all she can afford – World News

An Adelaide woman on disability benefits is being forced to pay the equivalent of £172 a week for a small patch of grass because of the housing shortage

A single mum has revealed she’s living in a tent for £700 a month because she can’t afford to live anywhere else.
The housing crisis has forced Meagan, 36, from Adelaide, Australia, to live in a tent.
The woman receives disability benefits and says she paid the equivalent of £172 a week for a small patch of grass at West Beach Caravan Park.
She made the difficult decision after making more than forty private rental applications in the past few weeks that were turned down. 9News reports.
Meagan explained, “I never thought I would be in this situation, it was absolutely horrible.
“Everything is going up, how are people supposed to survive? Homelessness is getting worse.”
Meagan is now one of more than 16,000 on the public housing waitlist and fears she has been lost in the government system.
South Australia’s Human Services Minister Nat Cook says it was a problem they inherited when they took office this year.
She said: “In the first week after we took office, we had 1,500 emails.”
Cook personally called Meghan today and offered hotel accommodation as a short-term solution.
However, it could still be months before a permanent home is found.
