Sir Elton John: The success of the collaboration with Britney Spears is all about her

Sir Elton John has talked about remaking his song Tiny Dancer with Britney Spears, saying he wants to “release a fun record”.

his duo last month released their much-anticipated track Hold Me Closer, which combines Sir Elton’s 1971 hit Tiny Dancer with his 1992 song The One, while parts of Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, from 1976, was also introduced.

The collaboration has skyrocketed the charts, being Spears’ first new track in six years and her first release since ending 13 years of management.

Sir Elton, 75, told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 about the Tiny Dancer remake, following the success of his collaboration with Dua Lipa on their Cold Heart (Pnau Remix) last year.

He shared, “After Cold Heart, Cold Heart was a huge success, I think releasing a record is very happy.

“The world needs happiness right now, it’s all doom and gloom when you turn on the radio, turn on the television, and I wanted to put something happy in it.

“Andrew Watt (record producer) put the bass on Tiny Dancer a bit. I suggest a little, it’s the one who goes into Tiny Dancer. And there’s also a bit of Don’t Go Breaking My Heart in there.

“What I wanted to do was not treat Tiny Dancer like a classic, but update it to a modern song and use it in a different way.

“That’s what melody can do. Luckily, I have enough songs in my pocket to do that.

“It looks like it got off to a really good start,” he said.

“I’m really happy for Britney, especially because having her on this record was a great thing, from the start, but this is someone who has been through hell who needs some love in her life. her, lots of love from so many people, and she is getting it.

“It couldn’t have come to a better reason than her at the moment. It’s been a really hard time for her the past few years. She hasn’t really done any music since 2016, so it’s all about her for me. “

Sir Elton said he had not spoken to Spears since the song was released but that they had “contacted via email and the like”, and Spears sent him and his husband David Furnish a gift.

“She hasn’t been on the charts for a long time, but she’s warming up, she’s defrosting, as I say, and she’s having a great time,” he said.

“I don’t know when I’ll see her or when I’ll talk to her next, but it really doesn’t matter. The more records, the more it will help her heal.

“She’s going to realize that people love her so much and they’ve missed her.”
