A fairy tale book by author Sir Michael Morpurgo to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Year will be released this spring.
His tribute poem, There Once Is A Queen, will tell the story of the Queen’s life during her 70-year reign as monarch.
Michael Foreman illustrated the story, which will be published on May 12, then will be brought to life by the artists during official celebrations in June.
The story will begin with the Queen as a child, planting an oak tree with her father.
It will continue her story and aim to bring “her historical reign to life” for readers of all ages.
“I would love to have my story play a small part in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022,” said Morpurgo.
“There was another Queen Elizabeth not too long ago, a cousin who has been stripped of our Queenship 14 times. A great writer, Edmund Spenser, once wrote a long poem about her which he called The Faerie Queene.
“My story is not a poem, and it is not long, but, as you will discover, it is also about a fairy queen – albeit differently written.
“Michael Foreman and I should dedicate this book to Her Majesty the Queen, with gratitude, affection and admiration.”

Foreman added: “It is an honor to be part of Michael Morpurgo’s tribute to Her Majesty the Queen.
“While studying the colorful long thread of her life, through a changing world, I was struck by the part she has played in the tapestry of all of our lives.”
The main celebrations for the Platinum Jubilee will center around the four-day bank holiday weekend in June.
Royal extravagance also includes a live pop concert at Buckingham Palace, a carnival contest in the streets of London, jubilant lunches and worldwide beacon lights.
Contest master Adrian Evans says much of the “initial motivation and inspiration” for the Platinum Jubilee celebration went to Morpurgo and Foreman’s company.
He added: “Together, we’ve created something of historical importance that I’m very proud of.”
The book will be published by HarperCollins Children Books.
The publisher’s executive editor, Ann-Janine Murtagh, notes that Morpurgo brings a “perfect sense of occasion” to the work along with Foreman’s “beautifully rendered watercolors”.
Together they weave a tapestry of glory that marks the extraordinary life of our Queen and celebrates a unique moment in our shared history. This is a book for all ages to enjoy together and will be a treasured memento of this joyful event. ”
There Once Is A Queen by Michael Morpurgo will be published by HarperCollins Children’s Book on May 12.
