When selected, Siri will sound less male or female than the two options the user can currently choose.

The move is part of Apple’s efforts to make the voice-activated assistant, which debuted in 2011, more comprehensive.

The company said the new voiceover was recorded by a member of the LGBTQ+ community, though it did not provide further details.

Voices have been added with beta versions of iOS 15.4 that were released to developers and the public on Tuesday.

Its release plan was later confirmed by Apple in a statement released on the US news website Axios.

“We’re excited to introduce the new Siri voice for English speakers, giving users more options to choose the right voice for them,” Apple said.

“Millions of people around the world rely on Siri every day to help get things done, so we work hard to make the experience as personalized as possible.”

While the beta versions of iOS 15.4 are rolling out this week, the full release is expected to roll out to the public until next month.

When it touches your device, you can change Siri’s voice by going to Setting > Siri and Search > Siri voice.

Siri works on any iPhone and iPad and can send and read texts, set alarms and timers, and search the web for you.

Powered by artificial intelligence, the software was voiced by a white woman by default until last year.

Following the release of iOS 14.5, those setting up an Apple device are now required to choose their preferred Siri voice.

English speakers can choose between male and female voices with a number of different accents, including American, British and Indian accents.

For the US variant, users can also switch between white and black female and male Siri voices.
