See how much data your iPhone is hoarding

You will be surprised how much disk space is gobbled up by unfamiliar little things like small cache files while surfing the web.

These are tiny bits of data storage like cookies meant to speed up loading, but over time they can build up into a huge pile.

Thankfully, Apple has come up with useful methods to erase this “other” data from your iPhone.

And getting rid of it can give your handset a much-needed speed boost.

What is taking up my iPhone’s storage space?

In Settings, you can see exactly what’s taking up the most space on your iPhone.

Just open the settingsthen go to General and iPhone storage.

You’ll see everything stored in your Photos app – including videos – marked in red.

Apps are shown in orange while iOS system data is yellow.

Green makes up messages and there are a few other colors as well.

Annoying gray signals “System data”, also known as “Other”.

You can also see how much is being used in total, and Apple even has some recommendations for clearing storage.

Outsource apps

One way to reclaim storage space on your iPhone is to offload apps.

Don’t confuse this with an ordinary wipe job – offloading allows you to remove the app while preserving all the data associated with it.

This means you can reinstall the app at a later time and pick up where you left off.

In the iPhone storage area, just select the app that you want to offload.

They realize Download the app button right there.

Be warned, however, as Apple explains, “Reinstalling the app will restore your data if the app is still available on the App Store.”

In other words, if the app is pulled from the App Store while you’ve swapped it out, you won’t be able to reinstall it.

Clear your web browser

Whether you’re using Apple’s own Safari or another app like Chrome, they all store quite a bit of data.

Everything from cookies and web history streams to open tabs slows things down.

So if you want to clear things up, go to settings then find safari.

Choose delete history and website data.

To keep yourself from accumulating tons of tabs, find the close tabs Possibility.

From here, switch to either After One Day, After One Week, or After One Month and your iPhone will do the work for you.

To clear data from Chrome, you need to open the Chrome app itself.

Tap the three dots menu in the bottom right, then scroll to settings.

Go to privacy and securitythen Clear browser data.

Stop saving text messages

Text messages can also accumulate over the years — and let’s face it, many of them you’ve long forgotten.

Luckily, you can tell your iPhone to automatically erase them for you from time to time.
