A second-hand school uniform store is hosting a series of pop-up events offering new and quality items for about a third of the typical cost of new uniforms.
The events of Smarter Uniforms come as Brighton and Hove City Council reported it was being inundated with families saying they needed more affordable uniform options.
The pop-ups will take place at Dorothy Stringer High School, Lush Brighton and Whitehawk Library on the following dates and times:
Dorothy Stringer High School, Loder Road
- Open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. until August 30th.
- The pop-up is not open on Bank Holiday Monday.
- August 27, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m
- August 28, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m
Whitehawk Library on Whitehawk Road
- September 1st to 3rd, 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- On September 2nd customers will need a library card, but on Thursday and Saturday all customers are welcome.
Councilor Hannah Clare, chair of the Children, Youth and Skills Committee, said: “Many local families have told us they want affordable school uniforms before the new school year begins.
“So I’m really grateful to Smarter Uniforms for running these pop-ups.
“Beloved uniforms not only keep costs down – they also help reduce waste and keep clothes in use for as long as possible. As someone who regularly buys their clothes second-hand, I know the impact this can have on tackling the climate crisis, reducing harmful emissions from textile production and conserving resources.”
Siobhan Wilson, Founder of Smarter Uniforms, said: “Thanks to these important partnerships and a large team of amazing summer interns, we are now able to reach out to the community to give out as many low-cost, free uniforms as possible during this challenging time for families.
“The savings on buying uniforms from us means parents have more money for other essential staples like shoes or blazers. We want to do our best to make sure dressing your kids for school doesn’t put an extra strain on your wallet.”
