Snapchat finally lets you change your username for the first time – how to do it

SNAPCHAT has finally introduced a feature that users have been repeatedly asking for for years.

The private chat app will let people change their usernames for the first time in its 10-year history.

The owner of the Snap platform said the move was designed to help people who have “matured and changed”, especially converting and non-binary users.

But Snapchatters will only be allowed to switch to a new controller once a year.

And anyone thinking of using usernames that were previously used by someone with a large following, think again, as you will only be able to create brand new names.

The old username you used back is also limited.

The feature is available to both iOS and Android users and won’t affect things like friendships, Snap codes, and Memories.

“Changing usernames is one of the most requested features from our community, and one that we know is hugely important to a lot of Snapchatters,” the company said.

To do this, you have to tap on the Bitmoji icon in the top right corner of the Camera.

Tap the gear icon to access the settings.

Select account nameFollowed by Change username.

A pop-up will then appear reminding everyone that they can only change their username once per year.

Enter the new username you want and press Next.

Finally, re-login Snapchat for it to take effect.
