A pack of Snoopy sculptures have been destroyed by vandals just two days after they were unveiled at a charity exhibition to give dogs a new home.
Organizers of A Dog’s Trail – which has been described as “a spectacular showcase of creativity making its way through Cardiff and South Wales” – said four sculptures were damaged.
The ornate beagle-like sculptures in the shape of Snoopy, the favorite pooch from the Peanuts comic, were placed at points of interest across South Wales on Friday as part of a free art trail to raise awareness and funds for the Dogs Trust.
A Dog’s Trail announced the “sad news” that four sculptures had to be removed due to vandalism, saying it was “devastating, not just for us but for the artists who put so much hard work into their designs.”
The victims of the vandals were ‘Peek a Boop’ which had been broken off its pedestal in Victoria Park, Cardiff, ‘A Dog’s Dream’ at Cardiff City Hall, ‘Welsh Wildflowers’ which had settled behind Caerphilly Castle and ‘ Tally’ in the Llandaff Fields.
There are 40 large Snoopy sculptures along the entire path as well as 75 mini Snoopy sculptures.
The large sculptures were decorated by a range of artists, while the minis were designed and decorated by local school children and community groups.
Organizers tweeted: “A Dog’s Trail has been developed to bring the people of South Wales together, be tourists in their own towns and be proud of the creativity in the area.”
The statement added: “We hope to be able to repair the sculptures and bring them back into the pack, but we urge the public to take care of our Snoopy sculptures, to be proud of the artwork and not to climb on it or.” to cling to to keep them looking good.”

The aim of the trail is to transform South Wales into an outdoor art gallery, get people to explore the region, raise funds for Dogs Trust’s outreach centers in Bridgend and Cardiff and help the 14,000 dogs that are normally cared for every year by be cared for by the charity.
The Snoopy sculpts and minis will be part of the trail for eight weeks through June 5, before the full-size Snoopy sculpts can be purchased by the highest bidder at a charity auction.
The organizers added that they are in contact with the police about the damage and are also examining what options there are to prevent a recurrence.
