But there are a few ways to catch someone.

First, check your app carousel.

You can access it by swiping up from the bottom edge of the phone and pausing in the middle of the screen on an iPhone with Face ID.

Alternatively, just double-click the home button if your iPhone has one.

This carousel shows apps in chronological order based on when they were last used.

So if you know that the last time you opened your phone you were playing Fortnite and the latest app is WhatsApp, you know something is wrong.

Of course, a savvy iPhone snoop could first check your app order and make sure everything is left in the right place.

Another way to catch someone is by checking your iPhone’s screen time records.

Go to Settings and then Screen Time and then click View All Activity.

Toggle the tap at the top to Day and you can see a timeline of when you’ve used apps.

So if you weren’t on your phone at 11am but Screen Time shows you were using Instagram at the time, something might be afoot.

There are other more common ways to look for snoopers.

You can check your internet history in a web browser.

Or you could check if WhatsApp messages have been read without even looking at them.

It’s usually best to remember how you left your iPhone so you notice any changes.

In any case, it is important to have good cybersecurity practices.

So make sure you have a passcode on your lock screen.

Also consider adding a separate passcode for WhatsApp, which can be done from the app’s own settings.

Do not leave your device unattended, especially in public places.

And consider deleting confidential conversations after you’ve had them, especially if you’ve sent a family member your card details or given a friend your home address.
