Some business users will be out of business

Some Slack users were unable to access the popular collaboration app on Tuesday.

The outage was first reported by Slack at 9:25 a.m. ET as many American workers returned to work after the President’s Day holiday weekend. Thousands of Slack users have reported problems loading apps on; the issues were still not fully resolved as of noon ET.

“Slack is not loading for some users,” the company admitted at 10:23 a.m. ET on service status page. “We are continuing to investigate the cause and will provide more information as it becomes available.”

At 12:07 pm, Sharp Slack to “signs of improvement. Please try reloading Slack and if not reset cache. We’re still monitoring the situation. We’ll confirm once this issue is fully resolved.” “

For users still experiencing issues around 1:45 p.m. ET, the company offers this advice: “We’re continuing to see improvements, but we still have some work to do. If you’re still having issues any problem, please reload Slack with Command + Shift + R (Mac) or Ctrl + Shift + R (Windows/Linux) or clear app cache (Help > Troubleshoot > Clear Set cache and reboot on desktop, Options > Advanced > Reset mobile cache).”

Finally, the company reported at 2:24 p.m. ET that operations were back to normal.

Slack, that’s acquired by Salesforce last year at $27.7 billion, has more than 12 million daily active users. That’s according to its most recently released stats from October 2019, so it’s likely that the current number is significantly higher.

While Software as a Service (SaaS) providers typically offer high levels of uptime, outages are not uncommon. Slack is among the offline SaaS providers last December due to an outage at cloud service provider Amazon Web Services’ US East 1 data center that appears to be related to network equipment failure. Slack’s services are also interrupted last September as a DNS configuration change created problems for some users.

Slack did not immediately respond to inquiries seeking more information about the cause of the outage and how many users were affected.
