Son of a doomsday cult mother who “ritually murdered children” was determined to exact revenge

Colby Ryan, 26, said he begged his mother Lori Vallow for months while his young siblings were missing to tell him where they were before their remains were found buried in the backyard

The surviving son of a doomsday cult mother accused of murdering her children says he is hellbent on revenge.

Colby Ryan said after learning of the circumstances surrounding the deaths of young siblings Tylee Ryan and Joshua “JJ” Vallow, he was consumed with “dark thoughts” against his mother, Lori Vallow, and her husband, Chad Daybell.

The 26-year-old said he spent months begging the accused to tell him where his 16-year-old sister and seven-year-old brother were after they went missing – although she remained silent.

But in June 2020 — nine months after the couple went missing — investigators issued a search warrant at Daybell’s Salem, Idaho home, and her remains were unearthed.

Vallow always claimed they were staying with a relative in Arizona.

However, she and Daybell allegedly had the children killed as part of a doomsday ritual, believing their bodies had been possessed by evil spirits.

After the discovery and the charges against his mother and her partner, Colby said he was obsessed with revenge.

He said The sun: “I had the darkest thoughts about hurting her.

“[I was thinking] “You want to hurt and kill my family? Then I’ll kill you.’

“It was so, so dark. But that’s how you feel when you want revenge.”

Tylee and JJ’s remains were buried in a pet cemetery in Daybell’s backyard.

Tylee had been dismembered and burned, while JJ’s body was wrapped in vast amounts of duct tape and stuffed into garbage bags underground.

Vallow and Daybell were both charged with multiple charges, including first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Vallow’s brother Alex Cox is said to have committed the murders at the request of his sister and brother-in-law before suddenly dying in December 2019.

Cox had previously shot and killed Vallow’s fourth husband, Charles Vallow, during a row initially believed to be self-defense before the case was reopened in light of the deaths of Tylee and JJ.

Colby says he has no doubt that his mother is “100%” responsible for all the allegations against her.

Her trial is scheduled to begin in October but could be delayed to coincide with Daybell’s trial in January 2023.

In addition to the deaths of Tylee and JJ, the couple are also being charged in the mysterious death of Daybell’s wife, Tammy Daybell, who died in October 2019 – two weeks before the two defendants married.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Colby said turning to God helped him overcome childhood trauma and the deaths of his siblings.

He recalled visiting his mother in prison in February 2020, who had been jailed for failing to turn the children over to authorities – before the bodies were found.

He kept asking what had happened to them and was told, “Everything will soon come out.”
