Sonic The Hedgehog 2 director says he’s ready to make a Smash Bros. movie

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Film director Jeff Fowler is doing press rounds promoting the sequel this week, and as you can probably imagine he’s been getting all sorts of questions about what kind of video game adaptation he wants to work on next.
Speaking to Comicbook.com, Jeff was asked if he would be interested in working on something related to this smash bros series on occasion. While he’s not sure if he’ll get the legal clearances for such a crossover, he said he’s still keen on the idea – noting how excited everyone was to see Mario and Sonic come out.
“Nothing would make me happier than just throwing all the characters into a battle royale and doing a big Smash Bros. thing. That would probably require some work from the lawyers before that could happen.”
“To get Mario and Sonic in the ring, I mean everyone would die for that right? That’s just classic.”
While the whole idea of such a thing might seem like pipe dream at the moment, who knows what could possibly happen in the future given that so many film companies are now looking to recreate the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with other franchises.
Mario is also getting his own animated film later this year. It will star Chris Pratt as Mario and will be produced by the team at Illumination (Despicable Me) with the participation of Mario’s creator Shigeru Miyamoto. Would you be interested in a Smash Bros. movie? Leave a comment below.
