Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is now the highest grossing video game film of all time

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hasn’t even been out a month, and it’s safe to say it’s already been a huge success for everyone involved. Namely SEGA and Paramount Pictures.

The sequel is nearly $300 million in sales (via Deadline), which currently sits at $287 million. That’s already more than the original 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog film, making it the highest-grossing video game film of all time.

In an International Box Office update, Deadline shared the following:

“The international Sonic 2 cume is now $142 million for $287.8 million worldwide, which means the little blue critter will zoom past $300 million any day now.”

“The leaders in Sonic are the United Kingdom ($26.3 million), Mexico ($15.7 million), France ($14.3 million), Australia ($13.1 million) and Brazil ($8.9 million). “

It appears that The Blue Hedgehog has become very popular in the UK and with the film set to open in the Middle East next week and in Japan in August, Sonic will continue to take the global box office by storm.

In Sonic the Hedgehog 2 we see how Sonic and Tails embark on a journey to find the Master Emerald. However, they have their work to do when Knuckles the Echidna and Dr. Eggman are hot on their heels.

The film is an asset to video game movies, as described by Alex in his Sonic the Hedgehog 2 review. SEGA and Paramount Pictures have used and enhanced the video game source material without straying too far from it. Things are fun, the Sonic formula is there, and it’s no wonder the film was such a hit on the big screen.
