Sony partners with advocacy group GLAAD to promote LGBTQ representation in music

Sony music group and GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) media representation organization, have partnered to advance LGBTQ representation in music and amplify LGBTQ voices in the industry.

Sony says this partnership furthers its “internal and external diversity, equity and inclusion efforts and doubles the company’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.”

GLAAD and Sony Music Group’s partnership includes several initiatives to advance LGBTQ advocacy and inclusion at Sony Music Group and the broader music industry.

These initiatives include consulting and training for Sony Music Group through the GLAAD Media Institute

Subject matter experts from the GLAAD Media Institute will provide LGBTQ-focused training for Sony Music Group employees and executives to increase awareness and literacy of LGBTQ people and issues.

The GLAAD Media Institute will also work with Sony Music Group throughout the year to consult on their campaigns and programs aimed at highlighting current LGBTQ issues and/or individuals.

Sony Music Group will also support the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards.

Sony Music Group is an official sponsor of the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards held on Saturday April 2, 2022 in Los Angeles, California and Friday May 6, 2022 in New York City, NY. The GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate reporting, and inclusive portrayals of LGBTQ people and issues.

Sony Music Group Artists and Songwriters Nominated for Outstanding Music Artist Award: BROCKHAMPTON, Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine (RCA Records/Question Everything), Kaytranada, Intimidated (RCA Records), Lil Nas X, Montero (Columbia Records, Sony music publisher) and Arlo Parks, Collapsed in Sunbeams (Sony Music Publishing).

Additionally, this year, GLAAD and Sony Music Group will launch a first three-part interview series called “ICONS,” which will bring together generations of LGBTQ musicians, songwriters, and producers for culture-enhancing discussions about the history of LGBTQ inclusion in music, where we stand today, and the future of the industry.
