Sophie Okonedo ‘excited and nervous’ about lead role at new West End theater

British actress Sophie Okonedo will take on the lead role in the Greek tragedy Medea at a new theater in London.

Director Dominic Cooke said he was looking forward to seeing Daniels again, whose credits include The Crown and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Okonedo’s one-time “explosive on-stage collaboration” again.

The pair co-starred in Haunted Child, a play at the Royal Court, in 2011, and more recently the BBC’s The Hollow Crown, directed by Cooke.

Prize winner Olivier Cooke, 56, said: “I’ve been friends with Sophie Okonedo since we were teenagers.

“We worked together several times, including on Arab Nights at The Young Vic in 1998 and The Hollow Crown: Wars Of The Roses for the BBC in 2015.

Okonedo, who was nominated for an Oscar and won a Tony Award, said: “I am really excited and thrilled to be playing the role of Medea.
