THE South Downs has been voted one of the best walking areas in the country.
The national park was ranked eighth in a list of walking areas across Britain and was particularly praised for its family-friendly walks.
In a poll conducted by Millets, the region beat the Yorkshire Dales and Dartmoor National Park. The research measured many different factors, including the number of kid-friendly restaurants and family-friendly campgrounds.

Around half of the walks in the South Downs are less than 10km long making them accessible to both adults and children, with 17 per cent of walks also rated as child friendly and 58 per cent of restaurants as family friendly.
Other factors considered in the ranking were the beaches closest to the area, average temperatures and the total number of visitors.
Popular walks in the National Park include the South Downs Way, which stretches 100 miles from Eastbourne to Winchester in Hampshire.
Other walks along the south coast also proved popular, with the New Forest topping the list.
