A water company has apologized after a pipe burst and a lane was flooded.
Cars were seen driving through about “four inches of water” covering the roadway. The road was closed around 8 p.m.
South East Water teams worked through the night to replace the main and one lane remained closed until this afternoon.
South East Water Sales Manager Ben Hewes said: “Our repair crews worked all night of Wednesday 17 August to replace part of a 9-inch water main that broke near the A22 in Hailsham.
“This is a complex repair where our technicians route the new section of pipe around a large tree growing on the water line and run about 10 meters of new water line.
“One lane on the northbound A22 is closed for safety reasons.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and want to assure our customers that we are working as quickly and safely as possible to complete the work.
“Residents and road users can use our interactive map to keep up to date with the progress of the repair
