Teenage Southampton defender Tino Livramento will miss the rest of 2022 after suffering a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Livramento signed by Saints from Chelsea was replaced last summer when Ralph Hasenhüttl’s team lost 2-2 First League move away at Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday with a knee injury. Initial scans have now revealed Livramento has sustained a significant injury to his cruciate ligament which is likely to keep him out for the remainder of the calendar year, with an early prognosis being a layoff of between eight and nine months.
That would rule him out for the rest of the season, most of next season and any outsider chances of playing at the Worlds later this year.
The England Under-21 international suffered the injury after a tackle with Brighton midfielder Enock Mwepu in the first half of the four-goal game. After the injury, Livramento went down and required oxygen before being carried onto the pitch at AMEX Stadium.
Livramento was a key player for Saints in his debut season in senior football. The 19-year-old full-back has made 32 appearances in all competitions this season and has netted once in England’s top flight this term.
The defender has also won his first five caps for England Under-21s this season. While the defender has played 30 times for England at all youth levels, the teenager is also eligible to play for both Scotland and Portugal at international level.

After Sunday’s draw, Saints boss Hasenhuttl said it was a serious matter for them. However, he has backed the former Chelsea ace to come back from injury even stronger.
“It doesn’t look good. It’s a shame to say it’s serious,” said Hasenhüttl on Sunday. “We don’t know yet but no matter how long he’s out he’ll come back even stronger. He’s very, very down but that’s understandable. I think we’ll definitely see him come back even stronger.”
According to the game ratings of WhoScored.com, Livramento was the Saints’ seventh-best Premier League player this season. He has average match rating of 6.73 in his 28 games in the Premier League, a ranking that ranks fifth of all players in the top flight aged 21 and under (at least 25 appearances).
The Saints currently sit 13th in the Premier League table, having won just once in their last eight league games. They will face each other in their final four games of the campaign crystal palace, brentford, Liverpool and Leicester City.
This puts them just two points behind the top half of the table leicester currently in tenth place with 42 points. A place in the first half of this season would be their best in the Premier League in five seasons, with the last place tenth or higher being achieved in the 2016/17 season in which Saints finished the season in eighth place.
Of the 34 league games this season, 13 ended in a draw. This total number of draws is the second highest next door Burnley. Only Palace (14) have seen more league results that have ended in a draw this season.
