Southern Water apologizes for sewage pumped into Sussex Road

RESIDENTS of a street notorious for burst sewer pipes face even more misery as sewage is once again spewed onto the street.

The water main, which runs under the West Way in the West Beach area of Lancing, failed again on Saturday, September 10, after previously bursting in July.

The street has been flooded with sewage multiple times, with five separate incidents from October to December last year.

There are also traffic control systems on the A259 that cause delays.

A Southern Water spokesman said work is underway to improve water mains in the area and the project is weeks away from completion.

In a statement, a Southern Water spokesman apologized and said: “Our priority now is to stop the spill by using tank trucks to pick up the flow of sewage – the tank trucks are doing crucial work which means many nearby households are getting theirs.” Kitchens can continue to be used and bathrooms as usual. Once they are in place, the pumping stations feeding the line can be shut down and we can begin the cleanup.” Southern Water apologizes for sewage pumped into Sussex Road
